The Museum sits on the arrest site of Rosa Parks and offers an opportunity for visitors to witness a reenactment of history when the 1950's Civil Rights Movement began with Rosa Parks refusing to move to the back of the bus. Visitors can travel through time on the Cleveland Avenue Time Machine from the early 1800's to the early Jim Crow era, view historical documents of that era on loan from the City of Montgomery. There are also a variety of temporary exhibits and humanities programs.

The first successful sustained powered flights in a heavier-than-air machine were made here by Wilbur and Orville Wright on December 17, 1903. Located at mile post 7.5 on U.S. Hwy 158, Kill Devil Hills.

Museum houses over 150 aircraft spanning the history of manned flight, from a replica of the Chanute Hang Glider of 1896, through modern space flight. Planes of Fame is unique in that it restores many of its aircraft to flying condition.

A living museum of antique aviation, the site presents one of the largest collections of early aeroplanes in the world and regularly flies many of these historically significant aircraft in exciting airshows. The Aerodome features aeroplanes, automobiles, motorcycles, early engines, and memorabilia from 1900-1935. There are also four museum buildings displaying aircraft from the Pioneer era, World War I and the Lindbergh/barnstorming era.

An 80,000 square-foot museum that began as a collection of classic sports cars by George Barber. Barber's interest turned to motorcycles and today the collection has over 900 vintage and modern motorcycles as well as a substantial collection of Lotus and other racecars. It is considered the largest in North America and possibly the world. There are about five hundred motorcycles on display at any given time (with over 900 in the collection). The bikes range from 1904 to current-year production.
